Home inspection process

It is important for the home inspector to take their time during the home inspection.  The home inspector will have a checklist they follow.  This is to be sure the home inspector does not miss any vital parts of the home during the home inspection process.  The entire home inspection process can take about two to three hours.  The home inspector will likely start on the outside of the home with any outside structures.  These would include garages, sheds, barns, etc.  They will also inspect any concrete or pavement.  While doing the inspection on the outside they will check the foundation of the home and the type of siding on the home.  They will also assess the roof structure and condition.

When the home inspector is ready to inspect the inside of the home they usually work from the bottom to the top.  The inspector will start in the basement.  The basement it very important because they can many times assess the condition of the foundation.  The foundation is one of the most important parts of the home structure.  If the foundation is not in good condition this can greatly affect the purchase of a home.  Other important elements that are typically found in the basement are the heating/cooling unit, water heater, electrical panel, water/gas meter, sump pumps, etc.

As the home inspector starts to inspect the first and second floors they will carefully assess the condition of the floors, walls, ceilings, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, all electrical, etc.   The last area the home inspector checks is the attic area.  This area is also very important because they can assess the insulation and check if there are any leaks in the roof.  They also can check the structure of the roof and surrounding walls.

When the home inspector is finished they will fill out the home inspection checklist in detail and send it to the client.
